Dental Fillings

Dental Fillings

Nearly everyone will need a filling at some point to repair a cavity or minor tooth damage. At Main Street Dental Center, we use modern tooth-colored fillings to restore teeth affected by decay with results that look and feel natural. These composite resin fillings are carefully matched to the color of your tooth, so once the repair is done, no one will even notice you have a filling – they’ll just see a healthy tooth.

Older silver-amalgam fillings (the dark metal kind) have been used for decades and do the job, but they come with a few drawbacks. Over time, metal fillings can wear down, crack, or leak at the edges, which may allow new cavities to form under or around them. Did you know traditional silver fillings are made of about 50% mercury? While they are considered safe, they can discolor your tooth and even leave a grayish tint on your gums. They also don’t bond to tooth structure, meaning the tooth can be more prone to fracturing under pressure.

In contrast, our tooth-colored composite fillings bond directly to your tooth structure, which actually helps strengthen the remaining tooth. Composite resin contains no mercury and is a biocompatible material. We harden it with a special light so it adheres tightly, sealing out bacteria and reducing the chance of future decay in that spot. Because the resin is shaded to match your enamel, the restoration is virtually invisible in your mouth and your tooth looks as good as new.

Benefits of modern white fillings

Natural appearance

The filling is matched to your tooth’s color, so it blends in seamlessly. You won’t see dark spots when you laugh or smile.

Strong bond

Composite fillings are bonded to the tooth, which can reinforce the tooth’s structure and help prevent cracks.

Healthy and safe

Our fillings are mercury-free and metal-free. You won’t have to worry about metal sensitivity or the filling causing gray stains over time.

Conservative treatment

Placing a composite filling often requires removing less of the healthy tooth compared to an old-style metal filling. We preserve as much of your natural tooth as possible.

If you still have some old silver fillings that you’re unhappy with, we can replace them with new composite restorations. Many patients love the improvement in comfort and appearance after switching out metal fillings for tooth-colored ones.

Getting a filling at our office is a quick and routine procedure. We will numb the area, remove the decayed portion of the tooth, and then fill the space with the composite resin, layer by layer. After it’s hardened and shaped, we’ll check the bite and polish it up – all in one visit. Our gentle technique and use of local anesthesia ensure you stay comfortable throughout the process.

Whether you have a new cavity that needs fixing or you want to upgrade old fillings for a better look, our team will make sure your teeth are strong, healthy, and beautiful. Tooth-colored fillings allow us to repair your teeth with virtually no visible trace – keeping your smile bright and confident.
