Dental Crowns

At Main Street Dental Center, our goal is to save and strengthen your natural teeth whenever possible. Dental crowns are one of the most common restorations we use to protect a tooth that is weakened or damaged. A crown is essentially a cap that covers the entire visible portion of a tooth, restoring its shape, size, and appearance while also adding strength.

We may recommend a crown for a number of reasons. If a tooth has a very large cavity or a deep crack, a simple filling might not be enough to restore its strength and integrity. Crowning the tooth will hold it together and prevent further damage. Crowns are also often placed after root canal therapy to protect the treated tooth, or used to cover a dental implant to replace a missing tooth. They can even serve a cosmetic purpose by covering misshapen or severely discolored teeth.

Common reasons you might need a dental crown include:

Our crowns are custom-made from high-quality, tooth-colored materials (like porcelain or porcelain-fused-to-metal) that mimic the look and feel of natural teeth. Getting a crown typically involves two appointments. At the first visit, we will numb the tooth and carefully shape it to make room for the crown. We then take an impression of the tooth, which is sent to our dental lab where your permanent crown is created. Before you go home, we place a temporary crown over your tooth to protect it.

In about two weeks, your final crown will be ready and you’ll return for a second visit. We will remove the temporary, check the fit and color of the new crown, and then cement it onto your tooth. We take time to ensure the crown fits comfortably with your bite and matches the shade of your surrounding teeth so it blends in perfectly.

With a new crown, your tooth will be much stronger, and you’ll be able to bite and chew normally again without worry. Crowns also seal the tooth to keep out bacteria, helping prevent further decay or damage. Our dentists will walk you through each step of the process and make sure you are comfortable the entire time.

If you have a tooth that’s giving you trouble – whether it’s broken, painful, or just not looking the way you want – a dental crown might be the long-lasting solution to save it. We’re here to help restore your tooth and get you smiling with confidence again.
