Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers

If you’re looking for a dramatic smile transformation, porcelain veneers might be the ideal solution. Veneers are ultra-thin, custom-made ceramic shells that we bond to the front of your teeth. At Main Street Dental Center, we use veneers to instantly correct a variety of cosmetic concerns and give you the radiant, even smile you’ve always wanted.

Veneers are incredibly versatile and can address many common issues, including:

Each veneer is artfully crafted to fit your tooth and enhance your smile in a natural way. The process of getting veneers typically involves two visits. In the first, we will discuss your goals and design the smile you’re looking for – including choosing a veneer shade that looks bright but still natural. We then prepare the teeth by removing a very thin layer of enamel from the front surface (usually just a fraction of a millimeter – about the thickness of a fingernail). This ensures that once the veneers are placed, they sit flush and look like a natural part of your teeth. We take impressions of your prepped teeth and send these to a dental lab where your veneers are custom-made. Temporary veneers may be placed on your teeth in the meantime to protect them and give you a preview of the new look.

On the second visit, we bond the permanent porcelain veneers to your teeth. We will first place each veneer on the tooth to check its fit and appearance. We can make small adjustments to the shape or color at this stage if needed. Once everything looks perfect, the veneers are cemented onto your teeth one by one. We use a special curing light to harden the bond. The result is immediate – you get to walk out with a brand-new smile! Veneers are very strong once bonded, and you can use your veneered teeth just like normal.

Porcelain veneers have the advantage of being highly stain-resistant and durable. With proper care, veneers can last 10-15 years or even longer. They don’t require any special maintenance aside from good oral hygiene and regular dental checkups. We’ll show you how to brush and floss around your veneers (which is basically the same as you’re used to) to keep your underlying teeth and gums healthy too. If you grind your teeth at night, we might recommend a nightguard to protect your veneers, just as we would protect natural teeth from wear.

It’s important to ensure veneers are the right choice for you. Generally, you should have healthy teeth and gums before undergoing cosmetic veneer treatment. If you have active tooth decay or gum disease, those conditions need to be treated first. Additionally, veneers might not be ideal if a tooth has very little enamel left or a very large filling – in those cases a crown could be a better restorative option. We will evaluate your oral health and discuss any concerns during your consultation. Our goal is to choose the treatment that will be most successful and beneficial for you in the long term.

Patients who receive veneers are often amazed at how life-changing the results can be. That small gap you’ve always hated or those chipped front teeth that made you self-conscious can be completely gone, replaced by a uniform, brilliant smile. The boost in confidence you’ll get from porcelain veneers can positively affect many aspects of your life, from personal interactions to professional settings.
